Front-End Designer/Developer
Object 9 is a growing agency with offices in Atlanta, GA and Baton Rouge, LA. We’re looking for a designer/developer to join our growing Atlanta digital/interactive team. We’d say “unicorn,” but if you’re the right fit, you’ll cringe at that term as much as we do.
What excites you?
The key word is excites. We’re looking for that special someone who is truly passionate about the Web, where it’s headed, and what you can do to push it that way.
If topics like pushing UI/UX boundaries (while maintaining accessibility and Web standards), geeking out over the latest CSS architecture debates, or new List Apart posts excite you, we think you’ll be at home with our team of like-minded designers/developers/knuckleheads.
The Bare Minimum
- You consider HTML & CSS your second language.
- You can hold your own in a debate with a PR person about typography as a design element vs. AP Style and enjoy it.
- You have some familiarity with PHP – WordPress in particular. You don’t have to be a back-end wizard, but you know your way around the WP admin and can tweak templates as needed.
- You have some experience with version control, Git in particular.
- You know Creative Suite inside out, and have a text editor you will defend to the death as being superior to all other text editors.
- You picked SCSS in the SASS/LESS/Stylus war. That’s right – we won. Likewise, you know your way around a Gulp file and have a trusty list of dependencies in your package.json.
- You don’t really consider responsive design as something separate from plain Web design anymore.
- Your code is as tidy & organized as your perfectly polished UI mockup or style tile. Your code comments are as clear as your Photoshop layer names and groups.
- You can hold your own amidst a group of good natured, hardworking smart asses that believe in doing things right.
- You pay attention to the details, whether it’s the size of all those awesome web fonts you’re loading, or the spelling in your wireframe’s annotations.
- Above all, you are always learning and pushing your own boundaries. You’re not interested in being a repetitive code monkey.
- You’re a Mac.
The “Nice to Haves”
- You’re in the metro Atlanta area (we’re open to remote, but a toga is bare minimum for Skype calls & YouTube hangouts).
- You know WordPress from the inside out – you might even have a plugin or two on the official repository.
- You know SOLID and DRY aren’t a state of matter and a lack of liquid. Also, SMACCS isn’t something you do to someone in a fit of rage.
The “Thanks but no Thanks”
- You just graduated from a 3-week all-intensive bootcamp where you learned the latest and greatest Javascript framework. That’s awesome! We should really stay in touch, but we’re looking for someone with a well-rounded skill set with polished examples of real-world work.
- You’re strictly a developer. Our clients have a high expectation when it comes to visual design and UX execution. We’re looking for someone who can hang with the best of them.
Why Object 9?
- We have an open, casual, creative environment. If you wear a pair of khakis around here you will be ridiculed (unless of course a client is coming by for a kick-off session).
- Great benefits, plus a health club membership if that’s your style.
- We have just about every type of project/client come through our doors. If variety is the spice of life, we’re basically a ghost pepper drenched in rooster sauce.
- We are internally drama-free and will remain that way until the year 2062, the probable year robots will awaken and enslave humanity (we’ll do what we can, but no promises).
This sounds amazing! How do I apply?!
Send us a love letter, your résumé, and some links (may include your personal site, Github profile, Codepen profile, or any other online-y thing that will give us an idea of your capabilities). If you look like the right fit, we’ll respond with praises and setup a time to either meet in person or have a call.
Let’s build something exceptional together.
